ChaplaincyDRUG ARM has a long history of collaboration with Christian Churches going back to colonial days. In the late 1840’s a temperance movement was formed to address the harms caused by alcohol and sexually transmitted diseases. Today, DRUG ARM is supported by an association of Christian denominations. It seeks to inform and be informed by the churches about issues of concern in their communities. Our name, Drug Awareness, Rehabilitation and Management, reflects DRUG ARM’s relevance in addressing issues of concern in today’s society from a Christian perspective. DRUG ARM seeks to respond on behalf of Jesus Christ and His Church. DRUG ARM does not currently employee a full-time Chaplain. In times past, the Chaplain had a variety of tasks. Most importantly, to provide pastoral care, counsel, encouragement and support to the staff and volunteers. They were also responsible to maintain linkages and networks with Christian denominations, local churches, Christian service organisations, and community groups and to promote our Christian outreach to the wider community. The Chaplain has previously hosted pastors’ breakfasts, Advisory Church Councils and other forums for church leaders, pastors and educators to challenge and inform them about issues and developments in the field of alcohol and illicit drugs. DRUG ARM Resource Centre includes Christian-based resources in its collection. Please refer to the Resource Centre Catalogue and the Resource Centre for information about borrowing. Speakers are available to address churches, Sunday schools, youth groups and civic organisations about the work of DRUG ARM.
