Programs
Street Outreach Service (SOS)
What does the program do?
The aim of the Street Outreach Service (SOS) is to provide a mobile referral, support and information centre. It is staffed primarily by volunteers and aims to reach out to young people in our society who are experiencing or likely to face harm associated with being homeless, mental health issues, the criminal justice system and/or the use of alcohol and other drugs. Overall the SOS empowers young people to make their own decisions in relation to their lifestyle issues, whilst encouraging young people towards a healthier lifestyle free from unnecessary drugs.
Locations in which SOS operates:
DRUG ARM New South Wales runs several Street Outreach Services (SOS), located in: Western Sydney, North Wollongong, South Wollongong, Newcastle, and Sutherland.
What support does this program need?
The Street Outreach Service relies on the support of volunteers to ensure the continued operation of the program. Likewise community support in the form of donations is also vital to ensure the long term viability of the program - SOS requires consumables such as milk, tea and coffee, and warm blankets, socks, toothbrushes and soap, fuel and maintenance for vehicles, and cash donations.
