Volunteering Opportunities with DRUG ARM

Become a DRUG ARM volunteer
DRUG ARM’s volunteers contribute immensely, in many and varied ways, to the work we do. Throughout our many services, and in many locations across Australia, opportunities to volunteer are vast – and not all are hands on. Some volunteers come with significant skills, while others take advantage of training to gain new skills – all are welcome. Without them, our opportunities to support the community would be vastly reduced.

Schoolies Research volunteers needed for Victoria!!

DRUG ARM is looking for research volunteers to help us look into the drug- and risk-taking behaviour and the experience of young people at Victorian Schoolies Week…. This is working with the Department of Human Services, and is allied with a long-term study in Queensland. The results are used to inform planning for the event, youth oriented support and diversion strategies and health promotion campaigns. This year is very exciting for us as we have the opportunity to collect information from a number of different Schoolies sites around Australia, so we’d like to make it a big one…

You can download an information sheet here, but briefly:

* You will be part of the Schoolies Research team

* You will be able to help us in the early evenings between Thursday Nov 26 and Monday Nov 30 inclusive.

* You can volunteer for any number of evenings, but it would be great if you could do a couple.

* You will be working with us at: Lorne (Surf Coast), Cowes (Phillip Island) or Rye (Mornington Peninsula).

* You don’t need previous research experience – just a willingness to chat to young people… and not mind if/that they might be intoxicated. (They’re all pretty friendly and happy to talk to us…)

*You do need to be over 18 and hold a valid Blue Card. We will provide you with a DRUG ARM t-shirt for the time you’re working, and a photo ID.

If you can help out for one or more evenings, we would love to hear from you – and soon!!!

Please email me to tell me you are keen and send me your completed Research Volunteer Information Form along with an electronic photo for your ID.

If you have any questions, please also email us - we will get back to you very quickly.

What happens on the streets?
The following link will take you to a blog site that is written by a dedicated DRUG ARM SOS volunteer from the Northern Beaches region in NSW.

Volunteering has many highs and lows, and a first hand account such as this explains why individuals volunteer with DRUG ARM and why young people often need all the help and support they can get in this challenging and ever-changing world.

A fantastic site that we recommend you share with family and friends.
