Schools ProgramsCARE provides tailored presentations and workshops for school students, teachers and parents on topics around alcohol and other drugs to complement the current curriculum. DRUG ARM’s specialised education staff can assist schools’ Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) education in numerous ways. We can:
Matters of Substance This is a specialised publication that is distributed to schools in each of our member states. Each edition contains information on specific topics relating to alcohol and other drugs and issues affecting the well-being of young people. The kind sponsorship of individuals and businesses allows us to produce this resource at no cost to the schools. More information is available here. The Resource Centre The Resource Centre is the only public lending library in Queensland with a special collection covering all aspects of substance abuse and related health and social issues. Materials are available for students and teachers in a variety of formats, including pamphlets, fact sheets, professional journals, current research papers, books, videos and DVDs. These are available to schools across Australia through a system of interlibrary loans. Schools Presentations Schools sessions may cover a number of areas; all types of presentation may be tailored to suit specific age groups, and to incorporate issues of concern particular to your school/s. We ensure our work aligns with State Education policies and guidelines. We also have a number of activities and resources designed to be curriculum-matched and able to be used by class teachers to complement current drug education programs. Our work with schools usually incurs a cost of $90 per hour to help us defray some of the costs of travel, materials and salaries, which are not supported by the Government. Resources for Teachers A number of Learning Support Materials are also available to assist teachers with their in-class drug and alcohol education. These include lesson plans, activity kits and resources. Details of these and other useful publications including age group target and pricing are given on the publications order form. Presentation Types The table below gives some examples of the types of presentations we can do in your school. It's not an exhaustive list; we will build our presentation to meet your needs. Please discuss your requirements with the CARE Director.
Please discuss costs for these and other sessions with the CARE Director by email or by phone (07) 3620 8821. Making Healthy Choices Program We are also working with a number of other health educators to offer the Making Healthy Choices program to schools and other organisations. This is designed to provide students in years 8 - 12 with a unique opportunity to learn more about their self esteem, relationships, staying safe and making healthy choices.
