Over 60 leaders in the alcohol and other drug, mental health and disabilities sector were involved this morning at a breakfast in Brisbane with the Queensland Minister for Health, Hon Lawrence Springborg MP, during Mental Health Week.
At the breakfast the Minister discussed important current and future challenges for the sector as the result of the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme; the move to outcomes based funding; contestability; and the benefits of devolving responsibility for mental health and alcohol and other drug services (public and non-government) to Hospital and Health Services.
All who attended appreciated the Minister’s honesty in regards to the concerns around the NDIS and his willingness to explore new and innovative models of community health care.
